Approaching Chinese Fiber | Carbon Capture Fiber: The Path Of Transformation From Industrial Waste Gas To Green Materials
The cross-border of a single fiber carries both scientific and technological hard power and cultural soft power. The story of Chinese fiber also affects the longitude and latitude of the world. After 14 years of persistence, the continuous release of China's fiber fashion trend has provided a sample for the development of the global fiber industry.
In order to let downstream and mass consumers know more about Chinese fiber stories, Textile and Garment Weekly and China Chemical Fiber Industry Association jointly launched a series of reports on "Approaching Chinese Fiber". Through in-depth exploration of the popular trend of Tongkun • Chinese fiber 2025/2026, they released vivid stories of enterprise growth and revealed fresh cases of cutting-edge research and development, It comprehensively demonstrates the unremitting exploration and outstanding contributions of Chinese fiber enterprises on the road of technological innovation, explains how they have a forward-looking vision and strong strength, and drives the whole fiber industry to a higher level of development.
At the moment when the textile industry and environmental protection technology are deeply integrated, a silent but shocking green change is quietly staged.
In March 2024, when Miao Hangen, deputy to the National People's Congress and chairman of Shenghong Holding Group, first knocked at the door of industrial reform in the name of "negative carbon fiber", the industry was still speculating about the future of this concept; However, only one month later, Shenghong Chemical Fiber New Materials Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Shenghong Chemical Fiber New Materials), a subsidiary of Shenghong Group, handed over an answer that shocked the world - in April 2024, the world's first green industrial chain of "carbon dioxide capture and utilization - green glycol - functional polyester fiber" came out, and developed ultra-fine carbon capture fiber - Reocoer Ruikong has refined the concept of "turning carbon into silk", which was once regarded as a fantasy, into an industrial reality within reach. Recently, the reporter interviewed Miao Jia, director of the brand strategy department of Shenghong Chemical Fiber New Materials, to take readers to understand the research and development story behind carbon capture fiber.

CO ₂ turns into green fiber, filling the industry gap
"In 2020, China put forward the goal of" double carbon ". The Group keenly grasped the opportunities of this era, focused its strategic direction on the field of new energy and new materials, and firmly promoted green transformation." Miao Jia introduced. In September 2021, Shenghong Group launched the "150000 ton carbon dioxide capture and comprehensive utilization project", and took the lead in building the whole industry chain ecology of "carbon capture and utilization green methanol new energy materials". Through cooperation with Icelandic Carbon Recycling Company, Shenghong takes carbon dioxide to green methanol as a technological breakthrough to build the world's first carbon cycle industrial chain of "carbon dioxide capture and utilization green methanol new energy materials" and transform greenhouse gases into high value-added chemicals.
Under this strategic background, the carbon capture fiber R&D project came into being. Miao Jia said, "We have been thinking about how to make more innovations in green products. Considering that the refining industry has a lot of carbon dioxide emissions, we are wondering whether we can directly capture these carbon dioxide to make our own products."

Before the start of the project, Jiangsu Shenghong Chemical Fiber New Materials carried out comprehensive research and analysis on relevant technologies at home and abroad. Although the world pays close attention to carbon emission reduction, and carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technology has become the key to coping with climate change, in the field of fiber manufacturing, there is little research on the combination of carbon capture and fiber production, and there is an obvious technical gap.
However, it also brings great opportunities to the company. Through unremitting efforts, the company has successfully overcome technical problems, and achieved industrial mass production in September 2023. It will capture, liquefy, purify carbon dioxide, produce green methanol, and then generate green ethylene glycol through a series of reactions, and polymerize with PTA to form negative carbon PET. It has built the world's first unique production line of carbon capture polyester through carbon dioxide capture in the whole industrial chain.

Provide new ideas for green development of the industry
Industry insiders pointed out that carbon capture fiber provides a new idea for the development of chemical fiber industry, and also provides a direction for the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries and the development of new quality productivity, which is of great significance for the sustainable development of the textile industry. From the perspective of environmental protection, according to SGS estimation data, carbon capture fiber technology directly captures and utilizes the carbon dioxide emitted by industry from the source. Each ton of yarn can consume 364kg of carbon dioxide, which is 28.4% lower than the traditional process, equivalent to a T-shirt made of carbon capture fiber (300g), which can consume about 100g Carbon dioxide will greatly ease the pressure of industry development on the environment, which is a key step in the transformation of the textile industry to low-carbon and green. In terms of raw material supply, carbon capture fiber technology has opened up a new path, turning waste into treasure, transforming the waste gas that originally exacerbated the greenhouse effect into valuable resources, and greatly expanding the source of raw materials.

In view of its remarkable social significance, in September 2024, Shenghong Chemical Fiber New Materials, together with colleges and universities, won the "2024 International Textile Federation Sustainability and Innovation Award", the only project in China that won this honor. In March 2025, reocoer Ruikong carbon capture fiber was successfully selected into Tongkun • China Fiber Fashion Trend 2025/2026.
At present, consumers' awareness of environmental protection is growing, and their demand for green and sustainable products is growing day by day. The textile made of carbon capture fiber has won the favor of Anta and other brands with its unique environmental protection properties. It is understood that Anta's icecoat down jacket made of carbon capture polyester fiber won the innovation award of the 2024 ISPO AWARD Global Design Competition in Germany. More importantly, recently, Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao held a meeting with European Commission Trade and Economic Security Commissioner Sergeovitch. The Chinese side prepared a sports T-shirt for Sergeovitch as a gift. The raw fiber of this dress is the carbon capture fiber of Shenghong Chemical Fiber's new material.
Help domestic and foreign brands achieve ESG goals
Green and low-carbon transformation has become the main theme of China's economic development, and carbon reduction in manufacturing is the core proposition in this process. As a leading enterprise in the field of textile fiber, Shenghong Group, the parent company of Shenghong Chemical Fiber New Materials, has always taken "low-carbon green" as the anchor point of development, and has bravely stood at the forefront of the wave of industry transformation, demonstrating first.

In recent years, Shenghong Group has successfully constructed two green industrial chains with global pioneering significance. One is the carbon capture fiber industry chain, and the other is to use waste mineral water bottles to produce polyester fiber. Only eight mineral water bottles can be made into a T-shirt. At present, the annual production capacity of carbon capture fiber reaches 30000 tons, and nearly 10000 tons of carbon dioxide can be captured and used every year, which is equivalent to "rebuilding" 15000 mu of forest for the earth; The annual production capacity of the polyester fiber industrial chain for the production of waste mineral water bottles is up to 600000 tons, accounting for more than half of the global market share. More than 36 billion waste plastic bottles can be recycled. The recycled fiber produced by the chain has become the designated purchase product of more than 30 international brand manufacturers.
As we all know, developing new technologies is like climbing the peak of science and technology, and the cost is high. In particular, the production cost of carbon capture fiber, which has not yet formed scale effect, is bound to be higher. Miao Jia said: "For enterprises, production costs have indeed increased, but from a social perspective, this has effectively solved the 'white pollution' problem, significantly reduced dependence on oil, reduced the burden of resources on the earth, and made the environment cleaner. Moreover, with the continuous progress of technology and the gradual expansion of consumption scale, the cost will continue to decline, and ultimately achieve a win-win situation of economic benefits and ecological benefits. "
Looking forward to the future, carbon capture fiber is expected to become the main product in the green field and make an important contribution to the ESG goals of domestic and foreign brands.
